Define God for me.
Please.
Right now.
Go
ahead and do it. See if
you have a personal definition for God
|
|
That’s
right… Put God in a box and package God up so that God can be
dissected and labeled.
Here…
I’ll make it easy for you.
We’ll define God as the greatest thing that anyone can
imagine. That should set some great limits on God. While
we’re at it, let’s all make some rules for God to exist by.
Let’s see… Oh, here’s one. “God can only forgive
you if you go to a priest for confession.” Or how about, “The
only Church that God cares about is my church”. While we’re
at it, let’s go with this rule too: “God will cast you down to hell
if you don’t follow the Word of God as a Christian and the way I
decide you should!” Better:
“God wants us to win this war so God is on our side.”
There
now. Do you feel better that we have set some real limits on God?
Do you see the problem here folks? Do you see the dangers of
saying that God actually has rules and limits that God must exist by?
Don’t you see the dangers of saying that your way is preferred by the
Almighty?
If
you can answer yes to anyone of those questions then there is only one
answer. You wish to control and domineer others around you so
that they are the same as you so that you don’t look stupid for
saying something you shouldn’t! No? Okay, then you are
just domineering and controlling and want others to support you so you
don’t have to go out and get a real job! Still no? They
you are just domineering and controlling! Plain and simple!
| Am I
bordering on Christian Heresy? Possibly. Is that a good thing? God I
hope so because if nothing else, then I have made you think about what
is going on here. For someone to confine God in such a way as to say
your only way to salvation is through a specific church or a specific
belief system is in itself dangerous due to the limitations that have
just been put on something (or someone) who has been defined as
something greater than anyone can ever hope to imagine.

If
anyone espouses the belief that God is all powerful, all knowing, and
all encompassing, then who are we to contradict with specific
limitation on how we celebrate God, or how we worship the God, or how
we love God.
If we
make statements that God is all forgiving, then who are we to say the
only way God forgives us is to be forgiven by a human dressed in a
fancy gown sitting in a little brown box. Or that God is sending a
person to hell because God can’t forgive certain things. Uh, didn’t
you just say that God is all Forgiving?
If we
make the statements that God is all loving and compassionate God then
how can we say that God is going to send someone to hell, or that God
wants this war, or that God hates this group of people or that group of
people? Which is it??? Does God love or does God hate????
Before
we open our mouths and speak to something we can never comprehend,
let’s take a moment to remember that we don’t like it when people
categorize us or put us into little boxes.
Why then should we do the same to That Which is Greater Than
Anything we can ever imagine?
And
think about this; before you go and decide on labeling something else,
or someone else, would you want them labeling you?
Peace.
