When we tend to carry more than we should, we feel it in our backs. What in fact happens is that we have muscles on both sides of our backbone, and when one side gets tense; the other side gets pulled out of place, thus a back problem.

Recently I had been carrying more emotional junk so my upper back “went out.”   I headed for the woods.  Walking slowly and bent over, I walked up to the first very large tree that I came across.  I leaned my back against the east side of that tree and told it that I need some healing.  I remember mentioning to the tree that it only needed to give me a little because I would visit other trees in the forest.

The east side of any tree is very healing.  Wendell Hoffmann, author of several books talked about using the energy of a tree to heal a lady who had breast cancer.  Using copper wire, he connected her to the east side of a tree for a day.  The next day he came back and did the same thing.  After three days of using tree energy, she had no breast cancer. (Referenced from Using Energy To Heal by Wendell H. Hoffmann page 79)

After thanking the first tree, I walked very slowly through the woods and found another large tree.  I repeated what I had done the first time.

After that it was time to sit on one of the downed trees and be grateful for the energy that was all around me.  When one is alone in woods, the energy is a very powerful feeling.  There is very little negative energy in the middle of a woods.  Perhaps that is why so many people are angry, they have lost their connection to this energy, this life force?  They are depending only on their personal belief system, while continuing to function in the middle of the negative-energy pool of other people.

After doing some communing with nature, it was time to walk on.  Some of the plants had already lost most of their leaves this fall.  Some of the leaves left were so orange/pink or yellow; it flooded the eyes with a feast of color.   I remember complimenting a 2-foot maple on the gorgeously colored leaves that she still wore.  I asked if I might have one.  She was a very proud maple as I accepted a large orangy colored one.   I thanked her with the hope that she continues to grow without interference from animals, which includes the other people that will pass by her in this forest.  Along with the leaf, I found a feather and that always is a sign that I am welcomed.  Feathers always make me smile.

Having made most of a circle in this woods, I came across a very large oak tree.  As I leaned up to it, I told it that I only needed a little healing and pointed out the spot that needed attention.  I stayed there for quite a while comforted by the feeling of that beautiful big tree.  We had connected so when I left, the discomfort was gone from my back and I no longer walked slowly or bent over.

For those of you who have never connected with a tree, I would like to tell you that it is different than what you might think.  Each tree has a different personality, much like people.  I have been told that each species of trees has a different personality.

One time I asked to be connected with the Deva of the Oak tree on our property. (Deva is a Sanskrit word for Being of Light)  I was told that it might be overwhelming, as it is the largest spiritual being in our area.   Old Oak trees have a way of overwhelming a person.  Their personality is that of a wise old person.  They get right to pertinent information. The first time that I talked to a tree, I jokingly said, “I bet you know the secret of life?”  And to my surprise it replied, “The secret of life is to make a place of peace and comfort for those around you.”

They all do this but Oak will get right to the point fast.  Maple trees, on the other hand, always seem to be joyous, comfortable and bubbling over with happiness.

Before I could leave the woods that day, I had to give thanks for the gifts that they had given me, not only for the healing but for the nourishment in my soul.  All Plants have a way of doing that even when you’re not ready.
