Thank you Paula, for sharing your beautiful soul mate story with us all.

SOUL MATE

Twenty four years ago after two divorces and many lessons that needed to be learned, I met my soul mate – a man who came in the least unlikely package. He was 20 years older, lived his life in a wheelchair, and was of a different religion. Many would not have even looked passing judgment that this was not an avenue to pursue.

Remember the old saying – never judge a book by its cover? Well I am here to share this very wise statement and to remind you to never judge a person or situation by the outside only.

I married this man and had the most amazing life. We did not have children, yet he gave me the children I never had – nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews – 11 in all! He gave me family, he gave me support, he gave me courage, he gave me understanding and love, and he gave me laughter. Most of all he gave me memories that will live in my heart forever!

As I grew as a person, I learned to see obstacles as challenges that make us better, to always do the right thing, to maintain a sense of humor, to know that as long as I do my best good things will happen, and to always count the blessings especially the simple ones…

My wonderful soul mate passed away in June 2006 surrounded by our family after a long battle with cancer. I know he is in a better place…yet a piece of my soul went with him as his soul went on a new journey…but I also kept a piece of his soul in my heart to build memories to last a lifetime.

Below is the Christmas gift I shared with him in December 2004 shortly after he was diagnosed with liver cancer.

MY GIFT

For 22 years we have shared our lives and developed a love for each other that is special in every way.

We have gone through both good and not so good times – all the while growing closer and developing a bond that cannot be broken.

You allowed me to grow and become the person I was meant to be with your constant strength, encouragement and support.

As we face our greatest challenge we have become closer than ever before taking our connection to an all time high!

The only gift I can give you now and forever is

“My Heart”

Know that I will never have a love like ours.

We are soul mates until eternity.

 I Will Love You Forever…
